There will be a new female Grand Slam champion after all the previous major winners were eliminated from the competition during the first nine days of the event.

With Venus Williams, Samantha Stosur, Garbine Muguruza and Svetlana Kuznetsova crashing out in the last-16, none of the eight women left in the draw have won a major in their careers.

Some, like Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki have finished as runner-up in the past, while others like Caroline Garcia and Jelena Ostapenko, are playing in their first Slam quarter-final.

Each and every one of them has a shot of making history.

Here we take a look at the quarter-final match-ups and offer a prediction as to who will reach the last-eight.

Has Wozniacki finally mastered clay? Is Ostapenko the next big thing in women’s tennis?

The former world No. 1 takes on the young Latvian in what is a desperately difficult to call contest.
Wozniacki has never made it beyond the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, while Ostapenko had never been past the second round of a Slam before the start of 2017.
