  • ATP - Madrid: Nadal Wins Against Fognini

    Rafael Nadal struggled to get rid of Fabio Fognini in Madrid. The Spaniard won 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 and will find Nick Kyrgios in the round of 16.


    It took three sets (7-6, 3-6, 6-4) and as many hours of play to Nadal to offer himself a round of eighth, at his home in Madrid. As usual, Fabio Fognini posed many problems to the Spaniard, also hampered by a strong wind.

    The fantastic Italian first came back to a set everywhere with a very clean second set (6-3). Then, led 2-5 in the third set, he took advantage of a dip of his opponent of the day to stick to 4-5. However, the 29th World Cup eventually ended in a 4th place on the penalty line, after saving a match ball ... and missed a game ball.

    Nadal will return to Australian Nick Kyrgios on Thursday for an eighth final which Looks enticing.

    The main set was finished up following a hour and 21 minutes of activity. It took two hours and 57 minutes for the conflict to touch the end goal.

    Nadal now has nine wins and three misfortunes against Fognini.

    Four-time Madrid champion Nadal will meet next rising Australian Nick Kyrgios.

    eleventh seed Tomas Berdych has additionally secured a spot in the round-of-16 phase.

    The Czech tennis player crushed Dutchman Robin Haase in straight sets 7-6 (5) 6-3. 31-year-old Berdych broke Haase twice amid the match while dropping no his administration diversions in a hour and 28 minutes of activity.

    Berdych is set to go head to head against Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas next, who beat France's Nicolas Mahut.
