LONDON - The International Tennis Federation (ITF) said it will conduct more anti-doping tests with professional players this season.

The ITF, ATP, Grand Slam Committee and WTA said they will join forces to perform 8,000 tests this season, compared to 4899 in 2016. In addition, samples will be stored longer in preparation for Future tests.

ITF President David Haggerty said "we welcome the tightening of anti-doping efforts."

"Protecting the integrity of tennis is a priority of all the organizations that oversee tennis to ensure that the sport remains clean, and these improvements will help bring us closer to that goal," said Haggerty.
